Product-Mix Auctions and Tropical Geometry

چکیده
In a recent and ongoing work, Baldwin and Klemperer found a connection between tropical geometry and economics. They gave a sufficient condition for the existence of competitive equilibrium in product-mix auctions of indivisible goods. This result, which we call the Unimodularity Theorem, can also be traced back to the work of Danilov, Koshevoy, and Murota. We introduce auction theory for a mathematical audience and give two simple proofs of the Unimodularity Theorem — one via tropical and discrete geometry, and one via integer programming. We also give connections to Walrasian economies, stable matching with transferable utilities, the theory of discrete convex analysis, and some well-known problems on lattice polytopes.

Solving product mix problem in multiple constraints environment using goal programming
The theory of constraints is an approach to production planning and control that emphasizes on the constraints to increase throughput by effectively managing constraint resources. One application in theory of constraints is product mix decision. Product mix influences the performance measures in multi-product manufacturing system. This paper presents an alternative approach by using of goal pro...
متن کاملAn Algorithm Based on Theory of Constraints and Branch and Bound for Solving Integrated Product-Mix-Outsourcing Problem
One of the most important decision making problems in many production systems is identification and determination of products and their quantities according to available resources. This problem is called product-mix. However, in the real-world situations, for existing constrained resources, many companies try to provide some products from external resources to achieve more profits. In this pape...
متن کاملThe Effect of Culture and Product Categories on the Level of Use of Buy-It-Now (BIN) Auctions by Sellers
abstract While previous studies on buy-it-now (BIN) auctions focus on the impact of BIN format on economic performances, our study focuses on factors that affect the level of use of BIN auctions by sellers. We propose a conceptual model where culture and product categories are two important factors on the level of use of BIN auctions. Our empirical investigation shows that the level of use of B...
متن کاملA new heuristic approach to solve product mix problems in a multi-bottleneck system
Product mix problem (PMP) is one of the most important and complicated problems in production systems. Different approaches have been applied to solve this problem, among them, theory of constraints (TOC) has been widely considered since 1990s. This paper develops a distinguished algorithm to solve product mix prob-lems that is efficient both in single and multi-bottleneck problems. At first, t...
متن کاملA Study on the Effects of Product Types and Culture on the Level of Use of BIN Auctions by Sellers
Unlike most previous studies on Buy-It-Now (BIN) auctions, this study investigates factors that affect the level of use of BIN auctions by sellers. This study proposes a conceptual model in which product types and culture are two important factors affecting sellers’ decisions on the level of use of BIN auctions. The empirical investigation exhibits that sellers of homogeneous products are more ...
